Remediation of Heavy Metal-Contaminated Soils with Soil Washing: A Review

نویسندگان

چکیده

Soil with heavy metals’ contamination has caused worldwide concern, and there is an increasing interest in the application of washing agents for remediation soils contamination. The review summarizes recent findings about soil different agents. For technologies, solubilizing capability, toxicity, biocompatibility are essential concerns. Washing can enhance desorption removal from soil. Inorganic acids/bases/salts, synthetic surfactants, chelators often limited due to their adverse effects on Biosurfactants, HAs (humic acids), LMWOA (low-molecular-weight organic acids) suggested agents, but limitation low production needs be conquered. Moreover, both a mixture agent sequential have been adopted improve overall capacity decontamination. Mixture obtain synergetic effect increase efficiency. Sequential apply high metals rate. However, this may cause environmental risks early stage, then remove injected stage by secondary stage. Overall, already known cases reveal good prospect remediation.

Remediation of soil contaminated with the heavy metal (Cd2+).

Soil contamination by heavy metals is increasing. The biosorption process for removal of the heavy metal Cd(2+) from contaminated soil is chosen for this study due to its economy, commercial applications, and because it acts without destroying soil structure. The study is divided into four parts (1) soil leaching: the relationships between the soil leaching effect and agitation rates, solvent c...

Using poly-glutamic acid as soil-washing agent to remediate heavy metal-contaminated soils.

The extraction efficiency of heavy metals from soils using three forms of gamma poly-glutamic acid (γ-PGA) as the washing agents was investigated. Controlling factors including agent concentrations, extraction time, pH, and liquid to soil ratio were evaluated to determine the optimum operational conditions. The distribution of heavy metal species in soils before and after extraction processes w...

Biosurfactant-facilitated remediation of metal-contaminated soils.

Bioremediation of metal-contaminated wastestreams has been successfully demonstrated. Normally, whole cells or microbial exopolymers are used to concentrate and/or precipitate metals in the wastestream to aid in metal removal. Analogous remediation of metal-contaminated soils is more complex because microbial cells or large exopolymers do not move freely through the soil. The use of microbially...

Reducing Agents Enhanced Electrokinetic Soil Remediation (EKSR) for Heavy Metal Contaminated Soil

Reducing agents-Enhanced electrokinetic Soil Remediation (EKSR) was performed for the removal of chromium (Cr), cobalt (Co) and nickel (Ni) from contaminated soil. The reducing agents oxalic acid and ascorbic acid were investigated under constant voltage gradient (2.0 V/cm), current changes, pH, redox potential, concentration changes and removal performance of Heavy Metals (HMs). The result...

Remediation of toxic metal contaminated soil by washing with biodegradable aminopolycarboxylate chelants.

Ex situ soil washing with synthetic extractants such as, aminopolycarboxylate chelants (APCs) is a viable treatment alternative for metal-contaminated site remediation. EDTA and its homologs are widely used among the APCs in the ex situ soil washing processes. These APCs are merely biodegradable and highly persistent in the aquatic environments leading to the post-use toxic effects. Therefore, ...
